Dragon Power (Fear The Dragon) got a run to suit at Ascot Park today and impressively won his sixth race.

From barrier two driver Carter Dalgety settled Dragons Power four back on the outside.

When Mr Cash Man started a three wide train inside the last 1000 metres, Dragon Power got onboard. As the field flattened out for the run home, Dragon Power stormed down the outside to get up and beat Always Ticking by half a length with Mr Cash Man a length and a quarter back in third.

“The right horse dragged him up and got him into a striking position at the right time,” trainer Jeremy Douglas said.

Today was start number forty five for the five year old who commenced his career with the late Murray Brown.

“He started off as a bit of a battler and he’s just got better and better. Just figuring how to train him has been the key. For the seven days leading up to the Winter Rewards (Winton 26^th July) he won’t even jog. He’ll just sit in the paddock. I’ve never had a horse like him but if you work him he doesn’t race well. As it is he’s spent the last two days just sitting in the paddock. I’ve had lots of horses that have needed to be fresh, but he’s on a different level. I almost feel guilty to be charging training fees because I don’t do anything (laughter).”

Meanwhile Jenny Gump, although unplaced in the Diamond Creek Farm/SBSR Silk Road final today, wrapped up the IHRC Iron Horse promotion earning her connections $5,000.

The meeting also signalled the end of the IHRC Driver of the Season. It was taken out by Mark Hurrell who drove three winners today, including Superfast which paid $103.00 to win.
